The Vice Governor of Phuket Mr. Worapoj Ratthasima graciously
presides at the opening.
The home is funded by combined donation amounts to 8.5 million
Baht from the Holiday Inn Phuket Resorts owning company L.C.
Thailand Ltd Pte and the resort management company Intercontinental
Hotels Group. Additional support for the project was also
given by AIG Private Bank and OVB Holding Ag. Cologne, Germany,
which will sponsor 35,000.00 Euros for a 5-year period for
the project costs.
The aim of the shelter is to provide a safe environment for
homeless children to commence a new life away from the streets.
It houses up to 30 street children between the ages of 11
16 in dormitory style accommodation. The home is accessible
24 hours and is equipped with modern facilities and operated
by professional care takers from World Vision who have experience
in the rehabilitation and counseling of street children. The
shelter offers children a happy environment to play, learn
and life in safety.
In his opening speech Mr. Wolfgang Meusburger, Holiday
Inn Resort Phukets General Manager outlined the reasons
for supporting the shelter:
As a successful hotel operating in Patong and Phuket, we
felt it was our responsibility to give something back to the
community. Happy Home was a project we believe will make a
real difference in the future of the street children, helping
them to escape from daily abuse and misery and giving them
life skills and foundation for a better future.
We are committed to support the Happy Home for many years
to come and will be partners for the future development of
this project.
Today we are all very happy and proud that this dream to open
a home for needy children has come true and we thank everyone
involved in this project for their support and help.
