Phuket is surrounded by a number of smaller islands,
many of them tourist attractions in their own right, like Phi Phi
Island, just 55 kilometres away. Trips operate daily from Phuket
and often include activities like canoeing, snorkeling, and diving.
The only island in Thailand to have full provincial
status, Phuket is growing fast with a permanent population currently
estimated at around a quarter of a million. Phuket's former wealth,
founded on tin mining, has now been replaced by tourism.
About Patong
The first resort area to be developed, Patong is Phuket's
largest and most popular beach. An expansive 3,000 metres of white
soft sand extends around a curving bay fringed by two rocky headlands
on the west coast.
Holiday Inn Phuket has a perfect location
along the main beachfront road which extends around the beach, close
to shops and nightlife. Set in its own grounds, it has easy beach
access, literally across the road, while offering a secluded and
private retreat.
In the town area which extends away from the beach,
Patong has plenty to do and see, with shopping, excellent restaurants
and a vibrant nightlife providing plenty of diversions for an excellent
holiday.
